Tuesday,4/9/13: Sanibel, Captiva & Fort Myers Fishing Report ~ Fort Myers, Sanibel & Captiva: Overview of last week’s fishing!

Here is an overview of some the fish that we caught last week!

The week started out calm with clear water and wind out of the east.  During that time we were spent most of our time in Redfish Pass fishing for Ladyfish and Spanish Mackerel!

In the middle of the week we were plagued with slow tides; when the tides are slow the fish are far less active, therefore they are much harder to catch. So, we spent half of out time fishing the grass flats inshore of Captiva Island for Ladyfish and Sea Trout, and the other half fishing the oyster bars for Redfish.

Toward the end of the week we got a strong north wind which makes some of the worst fishing conditions, the water was rough and cloudy. So we decided to change our tactics once more, we fished Redfish Pass for Sharks, and then returned to the oyster bars to try and catch some Redfish!

No day is ever the same out here, but we can usually find the fish!

Tarpon season is almost here! The prime season for them is between May 1st and June 1st.

For anyone who may not know about the mighty Tarpon, they are a game fish, which give an amazing fight, often jumping into the air! They range between 20 to 200 pounds!

We have seen a few fish, mainly Inshore of Captiva Island, but the main migration should arrive in May!

The best place to catch Tarpon is Boca Grand pass, which is north of Captiva. There the Tarpon fishing is truly spectacular!

We recommend that you book your charter way in advance, so book a charter now so you can catch yourself a silver king!
