These fronts change the barometric pressure and wind direction in a unfavorable direction (most of the time). The barometric pressure affects fish very much. As a front barrels down the wind swings from our easterly trade wind (breeze) and stable pressure to a stiff south wind and lower pressure.

In these conditions, the fish sense the weather change/front coming and feed heavily which is good for fishing, almost too good.

After the front and rain passes through, the barometric pressure climbs and becomes higher than normal, which pushes the fish down to the bottom and makes them inactive. Not only does the high pressure make it tough for a bite, but the overfeeding from the days before keeps the fish satisfied for a couple days.

There is an old saying about fishing on Sanibel and Captiva in heavy winds. Wind out the east = fish bite the least. Wind out the south = in their mouth. Wind out the west = fish bite the best. Wind out the north = stay home.

It looks like fishing will be best this week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Thursday and Friday will be tougher with the front forecast to pass through Wednesday night or Thursday morning.

The tides also look better for the beginning of the week with a larger fluctuation of water between high and low tides.

I would fish for tarpon and trout early in the day, redfish and snook in the mid-day, and sharks and tarpon in the afternoon and evening.

Redfish Pass, Captiva Isl (N. end)

St. Petersburg, Florida + Corrections: High(-0:55 *0.91) Low(-1:14 *0.91)
Units are feet

Sunday 05-01-2011
Sunrise 6:51 AM EDT, Sunset 8:00 PM EDT
Moonrise 5:34 AM EDT, Moonset 6:51 PM EDT
High Tide: 1:24 AM EDT 1.4
Low Tide: 6:01 AM EDT 0.8
High Tide: 12:16 PM EDT 1.9
Low Tide: 7:14 PM EDT -0.0

Monday 05-02-2011
Sunrise 6:50 AM EDT, Sunset 8:01 PM EDT
Moonrise 6:10 AM EDT, Moonset 7:44 PM EDT
High Tide: 2:08 AM EDT 1.4
Low Tide: 6:23 AM EDT 0.9
High Tide: 12:36 PM EDT 2.1
Low Tide: 7:50 PM EDT -0.1

Tuesday 05-03-2011 New Moon
Sunrise 6:49 AM EDT, Sunset 8:02 PM EDT
Moonrise 6:48 AM EDT, Moonset 8:39 PM EDT
High Tide: 2:50 AM EDT 1.3
Low Tide: 6:43 AM EDT 1.0
High Tide: 1:01 PM EDT 2.2
Low Tide: 8:28 PM EDT -0.2

Wednesday 05-04-2011
Sunrise 6:48 AM EDT, Sunset 8:02 PM EDT
Moonrise 7:32 AM EDT, Moonset 9:34 PM EDT
High Tide: 3:36 AM EDT 1.3
Low Tide: 7:03 AM EDT 1.1
High Tide: 1:29 PM EDT 2.2
Low Tide: 9:09 PM EDT -0.2

Thursday 05-05-2011
Sunrise 6:48 AM EDT, Sunset 8:03 PM EDT
Moonrise 8:20 AM EDT, Moonset 10:28 PM EDT
High Tide: 4:26 AM EDT 1.2
Low Tide: 7:26 AM EDT 1.1
High Tide: 2:03 PM EDT 2.3
Low Tide: 9:53 PM EDT -0.2

Friday 05-06-2011
Sunrise 6:47 AM EDT, Sunset 8:03 PM EDT
Moonrise 9:12 AM EDT, Moonset 11:20 PM EDT
High Tide: 5:22 AM EDT 1.2
Low Tide: 7:55 AM EDT 1.1
High Tide: 2:43 PM EDT 2.3
Low Tide: 10:40 PM EDT -0.2

Sunday:
Sunny, with a high near 89.
