File Photo.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Young fish dispersed north by currents in the eastern Atlantic are known to\u00a0<a title=\"Fish migration\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fish_migration\">migrate<\/a>\u00a0back to more tropical waters before the onset of winter; however, if the fish fail to migrate, mass mortalities occur as the temperature falls below the species&#8217; tolerance limits.<\/p>\n<p>The crevalle jack is a powerful,\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Predator\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Predator\">predatory<\/a>\u00a0fish, with extensive studies showing the species consumes a variety of small fish, with invertebrates such as\u00a0<a title=\"Prawn\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Prawn\">prawns<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Shrimp\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shrimp\">shrimps<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Crab\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crab\">crabs<\/a>,\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Mollusc\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mollusc\">mollusks<\/a>, and\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Cephalopods\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cephalopods\">cephalopods<\/a>\u00a0also of minor importance. The larval and juvenile growth has been extensively studied, with the oldest known individual 17 years of age.<\/p>\n<p>The crevalle jack is an important species to commercial\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Fisheries\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fisheries\">fisheries<\/a>\u00a0throughout its range, with annual catches ranging between 1,000 and 30,000\u00a0<a title=\"Tonne\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tonne\">tonnes<\/a>\u00a0over its entire range. The flesh is very red and dark due to the red muscle of the fish, which makes it somewhat coarse and poor tasting.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Fishid_9-6\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crevalle_jack#cite_note-Fishid-9\">[9]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>When pulled from the water, this fish snorts in what many people describe as &#8220;a pig-like&#8221; fashion.
