\u201cThe\u00a0common snook<\/b>\u00a0(Centropomus undecimalis<\/i>) is a\u00a0species<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0marine<\/a>\u00a0fish<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0family<\/a>\u00a0Centropomidae<\/a>\u00a0of the\u00a0order<\/a>\u00a0Perciformes<\/a>. The common snook is also known as the\u00a0sergeant fish<\/b>\u00a0or\u00a0robalo<\/b>. It was originally assigned to the\u00a0sciaenid<\/a>\u00a0genus\u00a0Sciaena<\/a>;<\/i>\u00a0Sciaena undecimradiatus<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0Centropomus undecimradiatus<\/i>\u00a0are obsolete synonyms for the species.<\/p>\n

One of the largest\u00a0snooks<\/a>,\u00a0Centropomus undecimalis<\/i>\u00a0grows to a maximum overall length of 140 centimeters (4.6\u00a0ft) but common length is 50 centimeters (1.6\u00a0ft).The IGFA world record is 24.32\u00a0kg (53\u00a0lb 10 oz) caught in Parismina Ranch, Costa Rica by an angler named Rafael Montalvo.[1]<\/a><\/sup>[2]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Of typical centropomid form, it possesses drab coloration except for a distinctive black\u00a0lateral line<\/a>. It can also possess bright yellow pelvic and\u00a0caudal fins<\/a>, especially during the spawn.[3]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Centropomus undecimalis<\/i>\u00a0is widespread throughout the\u00a0tropical<\/a>\u00a0waters of the western\u00a0Atlantic Ocean<\/a>\u00a0from the coast of the\u00a0North Carolina<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0Brazil<\/a>\u00a0including the\u00a0Gulf of Mexico<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Caribbean Sea<\/a>.[17]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

Many[who?<\/span><\/a><\/i>]<\/sup>\u00a0believe that snook originated in Central America and that changes in the earth\u2019s climate are what brought the snook to Florida. It is believed that during a great warming trend after the Ice Age, snook moved northward along the Mexico shoreline. They followed the perimeter of the Gulf of Mexico, down the west coast of Florida and up the east coast. There are massive snook in Central America, although they seem to look a little different because of the weather and water quality but besides that, they are the same.<\/p>\n

There are no restrictions in most of Central America on the size or quantity of snook one can keep, consequently, many locals have been keeping and killing the massive snook for quite a while.[18]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Occurring in shallow coastal waters (up to 20 meters (66\u00a0ft) depth),\u00a0estuaries<\/a>, and\u00a0lagoons<\/a>, the fish often enters\u00a0fresh water<\/a>. It is\u00a0carnivorous<\/a>, with a diet dominated by smaller fishes, and\u00a0crustaceans<\/a>\u00a0such as\u00a0shrimp<\/a>, and occasionally\u00a0crabs<\/a>.[19]<\/a><\/sup>\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup>Please see more information here.<\/a><\/p>\n
