Saturday, September 30, 2017].<\/figcaption><\/figure>\u201cThe\u00a0blacktip shark<\/b>\u00a0(Carcharhinus limbatus<\/i>) is a\u00a0species<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0requiem shark<\/a>, and part of the family Carcharhinidae. It is common to coastal tropical and subtropical waters around the world, including\u00a0brackish<\/a>\u00a0habitats.\u00a0Genetic analyses<\/a>\u00a0have revealed substantial variation within this species, with populations from the western\u00a0Atlantic Ocean<\/a>\u00a0isolated and distinct from those in the rest of its range. The blacktip shark has a stout,\u00a0fusiform<\/a>\u00a0body with a pointed snout, long\u00a0gill slits<\/a>, and no ridge between the\u00a0dorsal fins<\/a>. Most individuals have black tips or edges on the\u00a0pectoral<\/a>, dorsal,\u00a0pelvic<\/a>, and\u00a0caudal fins<\/a>. It usually attains a length of 1.5\u00a0m (4.9\u00a0ft).<\/p>\n

Swift, energetic\u00a0piscivores<\/a>, blacktip sharks are known to make spinning leaps out of the water while attacking schools of small fish. Their demeanor has been described as “timid” compared to other large requiem sharks. Both juveniles and adults form groups of varying size. Like other members of its family, the blacktip shark is\u00a0viviparous<\/a>; females bear one to 10 pups every other year. Young blacktip sharks spend the first months of their lives in shallow nurseries, and grown females return to the nurseries where they were born to give birth themselves. In the absence of males, females are also capable of\u00a0asexual reproduction<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Normally wary of humans, blacktip sharks can become aggressive in the presence of food and have been responsible for a number of\u00a0attacks<\/a>\u00a0on people. This species is of importance to both\u00a0commercial<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0recreational fisheries<\/a>\u00a0across many parts of its range, with its meat, skin, fins, and liver oil used. It has been assessed as\u00a0Near Threatened<\/a>\u00a0by the\u00a0IUCN<\/a>, on the basis of its low reproductive rate and high value to fishers.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup>Please see more information here.<\/a><\/p>\n

Because Turner Beach faces Westward, the sunsets are spectacular and a popular viewing point for residents and visitors alike.<\/p>\n
