The flounder&#8217;s two eyes look upward when swimming. They have sharp teeth, two eyes on one side, and have a white side.<\/p>\n<p>Paralichthys albigutta\u00a0is widely distributed in the western North Atlantic. Adults are found in a variety of habitats, but generally\u00a0prefer hard sandy bottoms; juveniles settle in high salinity seagrass beds.\u00a0Longevity is 7\u201310 years and females reach maturity between 1\u20132 years. It\u00a0is commercially and recreationally exploited. Specimens with ripe gonads have been collected at depths of 20\u201340 m in the eastern Gulf of Mexico.<sup id=\"cite_ref-:2_9-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gulf_flounder#cite_note-:2-9\">[9]<\/a><\/sup>Larvae migrate inshore during January\u2013February. The age at maturity for females\u00a0is 1 year (FWRI 2010) with all mature by 2 years and size at 50% maturity is 35\u201338\u00a0cm TL. Males reach maturity between 30\u201335\u00a0cm TL. Females grow faster and larger than males. Longevity for males is 8\u201311 years and females is 7 years (Munroe 2002).\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-:0_6-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gulf_flounder#cite_note-:0-6\">[6]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>They are a common <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Sport fishing\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sport_fishing\">sport fish<\/a> that can be readily caught with dead fish (such as mullet), live bait, or even artificial or frozen baits such as <a title=\"Shrimp\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shrimp\">shrimp<\/a> or <a title=\"Clam\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Clam\">clams<\/a>. A common way of catching this flounder is by <a title=\"Spearfishing\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Spearfishing\">spearfishing<\/a> or jigging. The recreational daily bag limit for this species is 10 and the minimum size is 12 inches (established in 1996). Commercial fishermen are permitted to take up to 50\u00a0lbs of flounder species as by-catch per trip.
